The Grammy Nominees Are In
Posted on December 4, 2008 with

The Grammy Awards are a more than a month away but the nominees have been named and country is again represented very well. Of course aside from the country specific awards there was a well deserved nomination of Lady Antebellum for best new artist’s where they will compete against the favorites in that category, The Jonas Brothers (they’re new?).
George Strait received four nominations so he has a good chance of adding to his awards collection and luckily the Grammy’s know great country music as Jamey Johnson was given three Grammy nod’s. A huge surprise was that Taylor Swift who was one of the host’s of the Grammy nomination show was not given a nomination which I thought by her hosting meant she would get at least one. The country album of the year is probably the largest country genre specific awards of the night which includes:
That Lonesome Song-Jamey Johnson-[Mercury Records]
Sleepless Nights-Patty Loveless-[Saguaro Road]
Troubadour-George Strait-[MCA Nashville]
Around The Bend-Randy Travis-[Warner Bros.]
Heaven, Heartache And The Power Of Love-Trisha Yearwood-[Big Machine]
In my opinion these are some very funny names since there were a lot better albums out there and if I were going to pick one it would be Jamey Johnson or George Strait, but either way if I were picking my favorite country albums of the year only That Lonesome Song would be in it. Of course the Grammy’s have become awards picked by out of touch older members but either way are a great honor. The 51st Annual Grammy Awards will be live on CBS February 13th.

i agree with you i do not like any of the choices for album of the year in country because none of those are any good. i liked in color by jamey johnson but the rest of the album was pretty cliche and boring. george strait is a legend but no matter what he does now he is given awards which i think tarnishes his legacy somewhat.

I liked Jamey’s album better like I said but I think there could have been a few better choices placed in not only the country categories but a few others. I think the Grammy’s also try to include as much indie artist as they can also and look at the art aspect more than the mainstream so it doesn’t seem like a mainstreamed awards show. But who knows, if anything I kind of want to see George Strait win an award since he has been nominated so many times but never won a grammy. I think that is about the only award he hasn’t won.
