Chris Cagle - My Life’s Been A Country Song
Chris Cagle has had success in the past with his debut on Virgin Records as well as his self titled album on Capitol but has still failed to really establish himself as a powerhouse on the country music scene. His latest release “My Life’s Been A Country Song”, I don’t think will help in establishing himself as a powerhouse but at the same time isn’t something that will shut him out of the scene all together which is happening very frequently as of late with many artists leaving as quickly as they release their albums. The lead single off of his album “What Kind Of Gone” is a good song but I don’t think is the best from his album which puzzles me on why they would release it to lead off because that gives people for the most part a bad first impression on the album. My favorite song off the album is the title track “My Life’s Been A Country Song” which is a very well written song and mentions many greats in country music as well as titles of famous songs which in itself brings back memories and makes it a very enjoyable song because of the way he relates all of them to everyday life. One complaint I have about the album and Chris Cagle somewhat in general throughout his career is the lack of emotion on his songs, where at times it feels he is more reading the lyrics than putting his heart and soul into it which keeps the album from being a good album to making it a just an average release.
